Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is sometimes referred to as "comfortable" or "relaxation" dentistry. These terms are often used to describe the feelings that most of our patients experience during their oral sedation appointments. The purpose of oral sedation is for a patient to become relaxed and anxiety-free, as well as to experience amnesia regarding their dental appointment. It also allows our dental team to work more effectively and to accomplish more in less time with great quality.
Our doctors are members of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation and have been trained to use a variety of protocols customized to a patient's physiological and pharmacological needs. A number of oral agents have been developed especially for these purposes and have been subjected to rigorous research and testing. These medications are safe and have been used for decades. These conscious sedation medications also have "amnesic" properties, meaning that by the day following their appointment, patients remember little or nothing of their time in the dental chair.
