Virtual Anatomy

The development of computed tomography (CT) 3D scans has led to improved visualization and comprehension of the anatomy in the areas in which implants are being planned for placement.

Conventional x-rays can produce only two-dimensional images. The rotating 360-degree i-CAT scan system allows doctors to see where critical anatomy is located: the sinuses, nerves, blood vessels, bone structure and density, and teeth. Using the 3D virtual anatomy images, Dr. Roberts & Dr. Hall can easily visualize and determine, with the help of a software program, the prosthetic tooth, occlusion with the opposing tooth, exact implant placement angle and thickness of the soft tissue between the bone and the tooth.

The virtual anatomy allows Dr. Roberts & Dr. Hall to test the feasibility of the proposed implant placement, to investigate multiple treatment scenarios, to determine the size, type and diameter of the implant that can be used to maximize the implant-to-bone contact and to make needed modifications to the plan in order to optimize the spatial and functional relationships between the planned prosthetic treatment and the anatomy.
